We train the dog in front of us. Every dog is different and we understand that. Our trainer bases his training on teaching first. Rather than trying to tell the dog no for all the things we don't want them to do, we teach them the things we do want and then use those to reinforce positive behavior. Our training relies on motivating the dog by using positive reinforcement to get the dog to understand what we are asking them to do. And once a dog understands what is expected, using positive punishment to reinforce the expected behavior. In short, we use food to teach the dog the behaviors first. Then hold the dog accountable with corrections once they have learned. The idea being the dog chooses to make the right decisions.
Here at Pawfect Choice we are big on socialization — but not just any socialization, proper socialization. We focus on controlled play and calm behavior. Our trainer teaches dogs how to be calm by motivating them, and how to be around other dogs without always being able to interact with them. This helps prevent over-excitement and reactivity.
Just like school — drop your pup off for the day to learn while you go about yours. They'll work with a professional trainer on recall, sitting, laying down, staying, place, heel, and not jumping. The more they attend, the quicker they learn. Consistency is key!
A great way to get to know the trainer, have your questions answered, and establish a path forward tailored to your dog's needs and your goals. Available in our facility or at your home.
We bring the training to you. Our trainer works with your dog in the comfort of your own home, addressing real-life behaviors in the environment where they matter most. Perfect for dogs that do better learning in a familiar setting.
Head Trainer, Pawfect Choice
"Hello. My name is Chris. I am the head trainer here at Pawfect Choice. I always knew I wanted to work with dogs but wasn't sure what exactly I wanted to do. I started in the dog world as a daycare attendant at a large daycare company. I learned a lot there — good and bad. I refined my ability to read dogs and got really good at preventing and breaking up dog fights.
I took what I learned there and made the switch to training. I found a mentor and helped him build his business over the next 5 years, learning more about the psychology of dog training — starting with basic obedience and eventually developing into behavior issues. I have trained well over 1,000 dogs at this point, over half of them being working breeds, specializing in fear and aggression.
By choosing me as your trainer, not only are you getting someone with 10 years of experience at a higher level than most — you're getting someone who will be open and honest with you, tell you exactly what your dog needs, and work with you and your goals. Because I train every dog the same way I would as if it was my own. If it's not good enough for my own dog, it's not good enough for them."
